Prime Video has released a new romantic movie, The Last Sunrise, starring Maia Reficco as Ry and Fernando Lindez as Julian. The story revolves around Ry, a college student who is suffering from tuberous sclerosis. During a trip to Mallorca, she meets Julian, a guy who is dealing with loan sharks. While their first interaction is a little awkward, the two soon get along.

However, Ry decides to hide the diagnosis from Julian. The movie also explores the business deals involving Ry's mother, which further complicate Ry and Julian's relationship at times. While everything works out in the end, Ry's sudden hospitalization changes everything for her mother and Julian. While the movie ends on a satisfactory note, there are still too many threads left hanging to call it closure, as the ending raises questions the film never answers.

Additionally, the character relationships feel not completely concluded, which just leaves the viewers wanting a sequel.

The Last Sunrise shows Ry, a college student dealing with tuberous sclerosis. And while Ry's mother is super protective of her, Ry, on the other hand, doesn't want to feel any different from others and wants to live a normal life.

The doctors even give her the option of surgery, but Ry doesn't want to take it and even convinces her mother not to do the same. The movie also includes a scene where Ry's friend asks how she is doing, but Ry asks her not to ask that again, hinting that she wants to feel normal like everyone else and doesn't want her condition to become the focus of every conversation.

During the summer, she visits Mallorca with her mother and stays in a hotel. As someone new on the island, she decides to explore the place and goes to a beach where she sees Julian for the first time. However, their first interaction is not so nice, as he makes it clear that the beach she is on is local-only. Later, she comes across Julian again, and he eventually helps her find the direction to her hotel after her phone's battery dies.

The Last Sunrise shows Ry leaving her medications after coming to Mallorca and just trying to live her life the way she wants to. She even goes to a club with other girls. But soon after she starts dancing, another guy begins to misbehave with her until Julian steps in and comes to her rescue.

However, Julian's life is also not so easy, as the loan sharks soon see him and try to catch him. Julian and Ry escape the place and go to a beach where they share their first kiss. But after he drops her at her hotel, the loan sharks come again and beat him for not repaying the loan.

Julian doesn't hide his secrets from Ry for long and tells her about the loan sharks, and Ry seems to understand his situation. The movie also shows the two growing closer as they spend more time together, going cycling, exploring caves, and enjoying each other’s company.

On the other hand, Ry's mother is planning to buy Garcias property since it's one of the most valuable docks to build a hotel. But Julian is also connected to the property and wants to protect his family's livelihood. Ry tries to convince her mother not to go ahead with the deal, but she makes it clear that business comes first and she will do the best she can.

In the end, Garcias agrees to sell. When Julian learns about the deal Ry's mother made, he seems to understand Ry and tells her that none of it is her fault. Ry gets all dressed up for the gala party, but her evening takes a turn for the worse when the loan sharks show up in front of her. Thankfully, Julian reaches there in time and saves her. He even joins the gala and meets Ry's mother.

The Last Sunrise ending explained: Do Ry and Julian end up together?

Towards the end of The Last Sunrise, Ry's mother learns that she has stopped taking her medication. Ry begs her mother not to leave Mallorca as she wants to stay, but her mother remains determined to take her home. As Ry tries to run away, she has an attack and falls into the water and is admitted to the hospital.

Ry finally decides to tell Julian about tuberous sclerosis, which causes epilepsy. While the news comes as a shock to Julian, he stays by her side. The two spend some time together, and after they rest, Ry doesn't get up. She is soon taken to the hospital, where the doctors recommend surgery. However, Ry's mother tells them that Ry doesn't want to undergo the surgery, and she has to go against her will to do that. Julian tries to convince Ry's mother that it's the only way to save her, and the surgery finally happens.

The movie ends on a happy note with Ry waking up, showing that the surgery was successful, and she ends up with Julian again. However, Ry's voice in the background says that her memories are slowly coming back to her, almost like remembering someone she used to know.

The ending shows that Ry is having difficulty remembering some of the past memories. However, the movie does leave the viewers wanting a sequel instead of closure. It doesn't answer many questions, like what happens to Ry's long-term health and whether she gains all her memories back. Additionally, do the two stay together after she returns to her home or decide to part ways.

Interestingly, a sequel to The Last Sunrise was already being considered in June, before The Last Sunrise's release, as reported by Deadline. However, Prime Video has yet to officially announce that the movie will return with a sequel.
