It’s no secret that Teyana Taylor knows how to make a statement on a red carpet—but for the 2026 Billboard Women in Music event, she made a particularly eye-catching splash.

Showing up to the annual event, where she not only served as a guest and performer but also as the recipient of the Visionary Award, the artist wore a tulle gown that doubled as a walking work of art. Both inspired by and crafted using 18th-century techniques, the piece featured a sculptural corset top and voluminous silk skirt.

Made from aged cloth and hand-painted for a historically-accurate process, the bodice was embroidered with swirling motifs of dark brown… thread? No, the thread was not thread at all, but rather hair, curled into coils and secured in place to reflect a Victorian mourning tradition.

The practice of keeping a lock of hair from a loved one after they pass was most frequently employed during this era with a locket or brooch, although here, Ashi Studio made it all its own. (If you were having a difficult time believing it was truly hair, just take a look at the back of the dress, where a whole braid was woven into the corset’s ties.)

As for the skirt, which was also painted by hand, the house gave the layers of tulle a rusted, unraveling effect. The ensemble walked as part of the brand’s Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2026 collection.

Ashi Studio has been a frequent collaborator of Taylor’s this year, dressing her for everything from the New York City premiere of Netflix’s The Rip in January to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February to the NAACP Image Awards in March. Clearly, it’s a match made in fashion heaven.
