Spencer Pratt aimed at Jimmy Kimmel after Molly McNearney revisited their workplace romance. The former reality star compared Kimmel to convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein.

Pratt’s remark followed McNearney’s candid discussion about dating her boss. The Jimmy Kimmel producer had worried about how their office romance could affect her career.

Pratt reacted to McNearney’s recent Armchair Expert podcast appearance. The Hills alum posted a pointed question on X.

“Isn’t this what Harvey Weinstein did?” Pratt wrote, directly comparing Kimmel to the disgraced producer. McNearney explained that she initially approached the relationship with considerable caution. She worked as one of the head writers on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“I remember thinking, ‘Oh, no. This is a bad idea.’ He was my boss,” she recalled. “I just kept thinking statistically this is not going to work out.”

McNearney also feared that a breakup could affect her professional future. She said she had worked “really, really hard” to build her career.

Kimmel responded that he had not considered those concerns at the time. McNearney fired back, “The person in power usually doesn’t.” She explained that she feared changes to the show’s workplace dynamic. McNearney also worked in a writers’ room dominated largely by men.

The couple initially kept their relationship quiet before marrying in 2013. They later welcomed daughter Jane and son Billy. Pratt’s Harvey Weinstein comparison carried especially serious implications. Weinstein faced convictions involving rape and other sexual offenses.

A New York court overturned his 2020 conviction in 2024. However, Weinstein received a separate 16-year California sentence, which he appealed.

Kimmel had previously criticized Weinstein following the producer’s 2017 scandal. During a New York magazine interview, Kimmel said he wanted Weinstein to “get what he deserves.”

He also hoped the scandal would make abusive men “think twice.” That history made Pratt’s comparison particularly provocative.

Pratt’s comment offered no evidence connecting Kimmel to Weinstein’s crimes. His post instead questioned the power imbalance surrounding Kimmel and McNearney’s early relationship.
