Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, shared a heartwarming gesture with his daughter Olympia, inspired by the legendary tennis player’s Australian Open history, which has a special connection to her daughter.

The co-founder of Reddit delighted fans with a sweet gesture for Olympia, inspired by her mother’s one-of-a-kind Grand Slam trophy. Williams won the 2017 Australian Open title by defeating her sister 6–4, 6–4 in the final. However, her win was even more special for Olympia, as Williams was around eight to nine weeks pregnant when she claimed the title. The American tennis player won the title without losing a set.

Nine years after Williams’ historic feat, her husband made a touching gesture for his daughter, Olympia, by buying her authentic merchandise from the 2017 Australian Open, reflecting the mother-daughter bond.

“My toxic trait is buying authentic merch from the 2017 Australian Open as gifts for Olympia (this was the one she won in her mom’s belly),” Ohanian wrote on X.

Serena Williams returned to the professional tour in 2026 at the age of 44. She competed in doubles events with multiple partners before making her singles appearance at the Wimbledon Championships. She picked up a knee injury, forcing her and her sister Venus Williams to withdraw from the doubles event. The iconic sister duo teamed up at the U.S. Open, where Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching eliminated them in the first round.

Serena Williams opens up on what getting a signature Barbie doll means to her

Serena Williams was recently honored with a signature Barbie to commemorate her legendary tennis career. Mattel, Inc., which owns the Barbie franchise, designed the doll based on Williams’ 2005 Australian Open title. The win marked her seventh singles Grand Slam title. The doll resembles the look the 23-time Grand Slam champion wore at the tournament, featuring a green-and-white streetwear-inspired tennis kit, designed by Nike.

After receiving the honor, Williams expressed her emotions and said that, growing up, she rarely saw girls who looked like her being encouraged to dream big. The American tennis player hoped that her Barbie doll would inspire girls to overcome barriers.

“Growing up, I didn’t see many girls who looked like me being told there was no limit to who they could become,” Williams said, according to The New York Times. “I want every girl who plays with this doll to see possibility — not just in me, but in herself. She can dream big, work hard, change direction, break barriers, and become anything she chooses. That’s what makes having my own Barbie so meaningful to me.”

This was Williams’ second Barbie released in 2026. On International Women’s Day in March, her first doll, featuring her in a suit, was released to honor her journey as an investor and entrepreneur. She also received the inaugural “Barbie Dream Fest Icon” award earlier this year while training to return to professional tennis.
