Vladimir Putin's war against Ukraine cost him 50,000 personnel in one single month, including at least 28,000 battlefield deaths.
The figures were released by Bloomberg on Sunday, October 11, according to a NATO official, as the horrific reality of Putin's war machine becomes painfully clear. The numbers refer to September 2026, which is now classed as the highest monthly total of the year, and tally closely with official estimates released by Ukraine's General Staff, which put Russia's personnel losses that month at 46,230.
The unnamed NATO official told the outlet that Ukraine's Armed Forces incurred 5,000 casualties over the course of the same month. The number cannot be verified, as Ukrainian officials rarely publicly release information on battlefield losses.
Tillis claims Trump 'broke the law' with Putin energy deal
Zelensky says 'Ukrainian skies infested with Russian drones' despite ceasefire
Back in January, Russia's personnel losses amounted to 31,710, which has now risen to 46,230 in September, marking a sharp increase of almost 46%, according to the General Staff.
Ukraine's General Staff says the most recent figures counted 1,552,840 personnel losses for Russia since the start of its full-scale invasion in February 2022, which includes soldiers killed, wounded, captured, and missing.
It comes as President Trump announced over the weekend that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an "energy ceasefire" in the 4 1/2-year-old war, but just hours after the statement, Kyiv reported attacks by Moscow on energy sites.

Writing on social media, Trump said that the ceasefire took effect immediately, adding: "Do not break it!"
While Russia did not comment immediately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that, although his country "welcomed" Trump's announcement as "good news for everyone," Russia was still hitting energy infrastructure in Kyiv and Kharkiv.
In a Sunday evening address, he said, "Unfortunately, Ukrainian skies have been infested with Russian 'shaheds' all day today. There have been glide bomb strikes and strikes on our energy infrastructure, too. A power plant in Kharkiv was attacked this evening."

Zelensky added Ukraine was "ready to refrain from striking Russian energy infrastructure - and we count on the same readiness from Russia."
As winter approaches, Russia's actions increasingly seek to deny Ukrainians power, heat, and running water with the aim of whittling down public resistance to the full-scale invasion. Ukraine has described the relentless strategy as "weaponizing winter."
"Ukraine has proposed many de-escalatory steps. Putin had one answer to all of them - 'nyet'," Zelensky said on Sunday.
"Ukraine wants peace. The question is whether Russia does. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have received all the appropriate orders. We are awaiting clear details of the dialogue between America and Russia - and we expect Putin to follow through on what President Trump said."
