Michael Weatherly will officially make his return as the fan-favorite agent in NCIS this fall, 10 years after he parted ways with the long-running drama series. Weatherly, 57, will reprise the role for the 2026-27 season, CBS announced on Wednesday, July 1.
He previously appeared as DiNozzo in over 300 episodes during his original 13-season run on NCIS, before leading the one-season spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva with Cote de Pablo in 2025.

Weatherly, who also had a cameo as the character in 2024, initially starred in the show alongside Mark Harmon, Sasha Alexander, Pauley Perrette, Sean Murray and the late David McCallum.
NCISspawned six spinoffs, including NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans. It also recently reached its landmark 500th episode, serving as the longest-running primetime drama on CBS.

Last year, Paramount+'s spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva ended in December after one season, with Weatherly and de Pablo sharing in a statement that they felt "incredibly lucky to have had the chance to play these characters once again and to tell the next chapter of Tony and Ziva’s story."
In 2022, NCIS showrunner Steven D. Binder reacted to the possibility of Weatherly returning to the main series in an interview with TVLine.
"Wouldn't that be great," he said. "When [Michael] left NCIS, he said to me, 'I am never going to do network television again. He had just had some kids, and the hours are so long... but then this Bull thing landed in his lap, and again he was working like a fiend. So I suspect — forgetting Tony DiNozzo for a minute — that Michael Weatherly is on vacation. I've known him for a while and I think he needs to chillax and go someplace tropical. I haven't spoken to him about that but we've talked over the years, and that's my guess."

Weatherly isn't the only original cast member to return to the franchise this year. CBS announced on Tuesday, June 30, that Harmon, 74, will return as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in all episodes of NCIS: Origins season 3.
The actor originated the character for 18 seasons on NCIS before departing in 2021. He will appear in the new season of the prequel in a "present-day mystery tied to his ‘90s Camp Pendleton days in an action-packed story that unfolds all season long," per the network.
As for NCIS itself, the show's 24th season will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT this fall on CBS and will stream on Paramount+.
