Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are recognized as one of Hollywood's most enduring and celebrated couples of recent decades. The pair first met at the Deauville Film Festival in France in 1998, tying the knot just two years later.

The couple, who share a 25-year age gap and notably the same birthday (September 25), have two children together, Dylan, 26, and Carys, 23. Michael also has a son, Cameron, 48, from his previous marriage to Diandra Luker.

Following their nuptials, Wall Street star Michael and Catherine resided in Bermuda for several years while raising their two children, before moving to the United States and settling in New York. This comes as Douglas admitted a secret Kathleen Turner romance after 40 years of denials.

Over the course of their relationship, Michael, 82, and Catherine, 57, have faced numerous challenges. In a recent interview, Michael looked back on the couple's brief separation more than a decade ago.

The two separated temporarily in 2013, three years after Michael's treatment for tongue cancer. At the time, Michael had revealed his cancer had resulted from contracting HPV through oral sex, which reportedly caused distress to his partner, reports the Express.

Speaking about his reunion with Swansea-born Catherine to The Sunday Times, Michael was asked about how he succeeded in winning her back, reports WalesOnline. He replied: "What, I won her back? It was mutual...You know we had our problems but I love her dearly and, 25 years, you know...marriage is a lot of work, you know. And so, you know, we're good. We're in good shape. It's all I can say."

In addition to giving interviews about their relationship, Michael also offers considerable insight into Catherine in his memoir One Helluva Ride, a book in which he further chronicles other romantic relationships from his history.

Recounting his first impression upon seeing her, he wrote: "I had never fallen in love on a movie screen before. Until I saw Catherine...And I was certain, as much as I had ever been about anything, that she was the one."

While Michael has discussed their connection extensively, Catherine has likewise offered her thoughts on their nearly three-decade marriage.

In a separate interview with the Times, she addressed how one element that has helped sustain their marriage is that they haven't been perpetually at home together, instead giving each other the space to take on different projects separately.

Catherine stated: "Michael is, like, 'Go and do that job, that's amazing.' And then he's able to fly in and see me for a long weekend. Much better than waking up, going, 'What do you want for breakfast, honey?' I don't think our marriage would ever have lasted if it was like that."

Nevertheless, she disclosed to AARP Movies for Grownups that when spending time together, their go-to date night centers around watching live sports. While the pair have been spotted at Formula 1 races, she told the publication they're enthusiastic about a wide range of athletic competitions.

She revealed: "We're big sports fans. So if there's a game on, we're watching it. I mean, every sport. I only follow baseball when the World Series starts to get going. I get really into it."
