Country music legend Dolly Parton died Tuesday at the age of 80, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy spanning more than six decades.
Her death was announced Tuesday by her family.
Parton's team issued an official statement saying in part, "A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. "
Their statement continued, "Dolly Parton's legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience."
"She inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact."
Born in rural Tennessee, Parton rose from humble beginnings as one of 12 children to become a towering figure in country music. Her career stretched more than six decades, producing enduring hits including "Jolene," "9 to 5" and "I Will Always Love You."

The famous singer loved the spotlight and quickly became the best-selling female country artist of all time.
Her talents extended far beyond the recording studio. Parton became a successful actress with memorable roles in films including "9 to 5" and "Steel Magnolias," while building an entertainment empire that included Dollywood and numerous other ventures.
Her extraordinary career earned her 11 Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, among countless other honors.
Parton endured profound personal loss when her husband of nearly six decades, Carl Dean, died in March 2025.
