Lauren Sánchez Bezos is giving a sneak peek into the 2026 Met Gala.
Nearly four months after Jeff Bezos and his wife, 56, were announced as the primary donors funding the 2026 Met Gala, the former journalist shed some light on her role as both co-chair and sponsor of the event.
“It has been such a fun and meaningful experience, and when Anna [Wintour] called me and said, ‘Do you want to co-chair and also be the sponsors of the Met?’ I was so honored," Lauren told Craig Melvin during a March 3 appearance on the Today show. “And then she told me the theme — fashion is art.”
“These designers are true artists,” she continued. “[Elsa] Schiaparelli was best friends with Salvador Dalí, and his medium was a canvas, and hers was clothing. It's going to be incredible to see what everyone wears and to be able to really honor all these designers. I cannot wait.”

In addition to Jeff, 62, and Lauren, who tied the knot in June 2025, Vogue shared in November that Saint Laurent and Condé Nast will also donate toward the event, which will celebrate the new “Costume Art” themed exhibition at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
"I think Lauren is going to be a wonderful asset to the museum and to the event," Wintour, the former Vogue editor in chief, told CNN that same month. "[I'm] very grateful for her incredible generosity, and she's a great lover of costume and obviously of fashion, so we're thrilled she's part of the night."

Since Wintour stepped aside from her role as the editor in chief of Vogue U.S. in June following a 37-year tenure, this year’s Met Gala will mark the first for Wintour’s successor, Chloe Malle.

After news of Jeff and Lauren’s relationship surfaced in January 2019, the couple attended their first Met Gala together five years later, when the dress code was “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story of the same name. The Met’s exhibition that year was titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
While walking the steps of the Met, Lauren wore a custom Oscar de la Renta gown with a floral, “shattered glass”-like inspired skirt. Meanwhile, the Amazon founder sported a classic black tuxedo and matching bow tie.
The 2026 Met Gala will take place on May 4.
