Kelly Clarkson slammed a Brooklyn store on social media after she said she was “looked at as if I couldn’t afford it”

Kelly Clarkson is having a Pretty Womanmoment — but not the best kind.
The “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” singer, 44, revealed in a post on X on Saturday, Oct. 10, that she recently went to a New York City store, where she had a less than stellar customer-service experience — similar to the one Julie Roberts’ character Vivian experienced in the 1990 rom-com Pretty Woman.
“Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me,” Clarkson wrote.
“Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale,” she continued, before name dropping the store. She then told her fans to visit the store “if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman, adding, “For sure, check it out 👎.”

In her post, she references the Pretty Woman scene in which Vivian goes to a clothing boutique and the salesperson refuses to show her the more expensive items.
In the film, Vivian later returns to the store while wearing nicer clothes and holding tons of shopping bags from other stores as she remarks to the salesperson who refused to show her the items that she made a “Big mistake. Big. Huge.”
Clarkson, who moved to New York City in the fall of 2023, doesn’t share too many details about her life on social media, often choosing to keep her life private. However, she has shared posts about her experiences and life updates from time to time.

In February, the multi-hyphenate revealed her decision to step back as a daytime host on The Kelly Clarkson Show in an effort to “prioritize” her children — daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remington Alexander, 10 — after the death of their father, Brandon Blackstock.
“There have been so many amazing moments and shows over these seven seasons,” she said at the time.
“I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner,” Clarkson added.

“For now, I want to thank y’all so much for allowing our show to be a part of your lives, and for believing in us and hanging with us for seven incredible years,” she concluded in her statement.
The final episode of the show was shot on Aug. 31, nearly seven years after its premiere.
Clarkson is currently starring on the 30th season of The Voice, where she serves as one of the four judges alongside Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
