Harry Shum Jr. exclusively told PEOPLE that Glee references will be sprinkled into his routines on Dancing with the Stars

“Those things are gonna be fun because you’re gonna see those elements because I know that [Glee] was a big part of my career and my life,” explained the Grey’s Anatomy actor

Shum, who is partnered with Jenna Johnson on DWTS, also revealed that he’s “always down” to be in a Glee revival

Glee fans might “gleek out” whenever they see Dancing with the Stars season 35 contestant Harry Shum Jr. infuse a dance with a nod to the hit TV musical series that catapulted him into fame.

After paying homage to Grey’s Anatomy, the current show he stars in, during his DWTS premiere episode dance, the actor, 44, exclusively told PEOPLE that Glee references will be sprinkled into future dances.

“Anything can happen. This one was so unexpected howthe whole thing came together — it was just like this works perfectly,” Shum said of his week 1 cha cha with pro dance partner Jenna Johnson to the song “Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind & Fire.

He continued, “So, there are songs that [we’d] have to adjust, but like, of course,” before Johnson, 32, chimed in with, “We wanna do like [Glee] Easter eggs, I feel like, too.”

On why nods to Glee — which ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015  —will be incorporated, Shum explained, “Those things are gonna be fun because you’re gonna see those elements because I know that that was a big part of my career and my life.”

For their week 3 jive routine on Sept. 29, Shum and Jenna danced to a song that the late Cory Monteith sang — “You Make My Dreams (Come True)” by Daryl Hall & John Oates — in the third season of Glee.

During that Glee performance, Shum’s character Mike Chang wore a fake mustache, so during his DWTS routine, he sported a mustache.

Shum’s former Glee costars Amber Riley and Chris Colfer were in the live audience for his week 3 dance.

Their appearances came days after Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed he has finished writing a script for a potential revival of the musical series.

Asked whether he would participate in a Glee revival, Shum told PEOPLE that he is “always down to do that”

“I mean, look, it’s like one of those shows that I can’t believe that it’s coming back and people are so excited about it,” Shum said. “That was such a special time for me and, honestly, anything that Ryan Murphy does is exceptional, so to be able to come back and see friends and to do stuff with friends, I’m always down to do that.”
