Country music star Dolly Parton passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80, following her brief battle with cancer, her family confirmed.
Just four days before her family shared the tragic news in a tribute video, Parton had opened up about her hopes for the years ahead.
According to reports, the singer spoke candidly about wanting more time, as she had more aspirations than time on Earth.
Parton On Her Unfinished Dream
Despite struggling with her health amid her cancer battle, Dolly Parton sat down for an interview with People Magazine.
During the conversation, Parton talked about many more aspirations she hoped to achieve in her career, even in her 80s.
āIām still workinā! You know meāas Iāve often saidāIāve dreamed myself into a corner, and I still have so many things I want to achieve,ā Parton said.
Instead of sharing specifics, Parton added, āIām gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life.ā
āSeriously, though, even though Iām still healinā, Iām still workinā!ā she said to the outlet before admitting to ādealing with some health issues.ā
Parton concluded her interview by reflecting on past struggles: āBack in the early ā80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so itās not like I havenāt been through hard times with my health.ā
Tributes Pour In as Dolly Partonās Nephew Announces Her Demise
Just days after the interview, Dolly Partonās nephew, Brian Seaver, who identified as her sister Cassie Partonās son, announced the singerās passing.

Sharing an Instagram video, he said, āIām representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean.ā
He hailed her memory as āSister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.ā
Seaver added, āThis video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality.ā
āAs her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but havenāt truly felt it until now,ā he added.
Partonās nephew continued, āIt is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly.ā
āDolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens,ā he said.
Soon after the announcement, tributes poured in from Sir Paul McCartney, Oprah Winfrey, Sir Elton John, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift, and even the White House, where flags were lowered in her honor.
