For her latest appearance at The Albies on October 9, Amal Clooney dazzled alongside her husband George in a bespoke gold Gucci gown.
Her hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos said he “chopped her hair much shorter” and called her hairstyle “Glamorous, but still relaxed.”
On his mood board? Sophia Loren and Kate Moss, he explained.
In addition to the show-stopping gold Gucci gown that Amal Clooney wore to the fifth edition of The Albies, the human rights attorney also included a significant haircut in her look.

On October 9, Amal and husband George Clooney hit the red carpet for the event, held at London’s Natural History Museum and put on by the Clooney Foundation for Justice. Her glossy brunette hair was styled by longtime hairstylist—and, more recently, makeup artist—Dimitris Giannetos, who told Vogue he used both Sophia Loren and Kate Moss as inspiration for Amal’s hair.

The Albies celebrates individuals fighting for justice and human rights around the world, and one of this year’s sponsors was Gucci, who dressed Amal in a bespoke off-the-shoulder sculptural dress covered in shimmering gold sequins and featuring floor-length fringe.
“I worked with Amal and the Gucci team to create Amal’s look,” Giannetos said. “Demna’s inspiration was an Old Hollywood movie star, the same vibe as Sophia Loren.”

Ahead of the event, “I chopped her hair much shorter now, with lots of layers, movement, razored and wispy layers and some summer highlights,” he added. “So I gave that classic inspiration a modern twist: soft, effortless waves with plenty of texture. Glamorous, but still relaxed.” His mood board, he continued, was “A combo of Sophia Loren meets Kate Moss.”

In addition to Amal’s side parted waves, Giannetos kept her makeup “luminous, with shimmery golden tones to complement her gown,” he said. Speaking of Amal’s custom Gucci creation, she added to it with metallic gold pointed-toe pumps, a clutch that also shimmered, and dangling diamond earrings. George also wore a black tailored suit by Gucci.

“This year’s Albie honorees embody the values at the heart of our foundation,” the Clooneys said in a statement (per WWD). “Through these awards, we want them—and everyone advocating for justice around the globe—to know that the world is watching and that they are not alone.” The Albies were named after Justice Albie Sachs, a hero of the anti-apartheid movement who fought for equality in South Africa.
Other A-list attendees at the event included Donatella Versace, Brad Pitt, Emily Ratajkowski, and Laura Dern, but it was impossible to take one’s eyes off the Clooneys. The couple—married since 2014 and parents to 9-year-old twins Alexander and Ella—told People that they feel “very lucky” to have found each other.

“If you choose the most incredible person, then it all goes well from there,” Amal said when asked about her secret to their longtime partnership. George added as his wife said that, “She looked at me—she was talking about herself, of course.”

When the actor was asked what he loved most about Amal, he sweetly responded, “That’s a longer, longer show.”
