The incident occurred during ground operations on Monday, Aug. 24, as the plane prepared to depart for Paris after a prior delay
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched an investigation into the incident
A worker at one of Canada’s busiest airports was rushed to the hospital after allegedly being hit by a plane.
Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport confirmed the “accident” occurred on Monday, Aug. 24, involving a plane, in a statement to local outlets CBC, Pax News and The Montreal Gazette.
“We can confirm that emergency measures were deployed at the YUL International Montreal-Trudeau Airport at around 7:30 p.m. following an unfortunate accident involving an aircraft and a member of the airport community,” the airport said in a statement to the outlets.
While the airport didn’t give any specific details about the emergency, local outlets reported that an airport employee — who, according to Radio-Canada, has been a runway marshal who was in his forties — had been struck by a passenger jet.

A police spokesperson told The Montreal Gazette that preliminary information suggested the aircraft may have been backing up when it struck the worker, though the circumstances of the collision were still under investigation.
The plane was a French Bee Airbus A350 that was preparing to depart for Paris Orly Airport around 6 p.m., per Pax News and CBC. According to the outlets, the flight was originally scheduled to leave Montreal the day prior on Aug. 23 but was delayed due to a technical problem.
The airline told Radio-Canada in a statement that “the accident involved the aircraft and a pushback vehicle involved in ground operations.”
“Passengers and crew members on board the aircraft are safe and sound. They are currently being cared for by French Bee and airport staff,” the airline told the outlet.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) told CBC in a statement that the person was transported to the hospital and sustained serious injuries.
PEOPLE has reached out to the Montreal-Trudeau Airport, SPVM and French Bee for comment on the incident.

One passenger on the French Bee flight claimed to Radio-Canada that she saw a man pass under the plane while it was moving.

“Many [passengers] were screaming,” she recalled to the outlet of the frenzy that took place after the incident.
The incident disrupted several flights for several hours, Radio-Canada reported. However, airport operations returned to normal as of Tuesday, Aug. 25, per CBC and The Montreal Gazette.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, an independent agency that investigates air travel incidents, is investigating the incident, according to CBC and Radio-Canada.
